 DRUG-NUTRIENT INTERACTION OF ACEBUTOLOL

Interaction with dietary Supplements

  • Some beta-adrenergic blockers decrease the uptake of potassium from the blood into the cells, leading to excess potassium in the blood, a potentially dangerous condition called hyperkalemia. People taking potassium supplements or eating large quantities of fruits. E.g. bananas
Interaction with herbs

  •  As pleurisy root and plants in Aesclepuis genes contain cardiac glycosides, it is best to avoid use of pleurisy root with heart medication such as beta blockers.
Interaction with foods and other compound

  •  Taking acebutolol with certain nutrients slows down the rate of absorption and reduces the maximum blood levels of the drug, though overall absorption is not affected.
